School's Out for the Summer
I'm not sure if it is an "at last, sigh of relief" or "oh no, sigh of concern" that school is over for the summer. I still have plenty to do as the President, but the kids celebrated their last day this week. Monday they had one normal day of school, normal being a relative term, as they played outside the entire time, and Siena wanted to know why they weren't having indoor school (she really enjoys the sense of accomplishment she gets when she is doing normal "work" at Montessori).
On Tuesday there was a Rites of Passage ceremony - formally celebrating the year we've had and announcing where the kids will be in the fall. Sterling can hardly believe he is going to be a kindergartener next fall! It was fun to see him this year. Last year he was so shy he wouldn't participate in the group singing and had a really diffficult time going forward for his award. This year he was a big guy, encouraging the younger boys to join in and standing for his award more with impatience to get to play than with shyness.
And now we are done. Summer is here - we've already had a pool day and two beach days. Today we hope to garden some. For more about the non-kids portion of our lives, you can check out my blog: extending the table.
